Nitrous/Laughing Gas
For those patients who may be feeling a little anxious about coming to visit the dentist, nitrous oxide can be a beneficial aid in keeping you comfortable. Click below to learn more about how “Laughing Gas” can keep you comfortable at your next visit
Dr. Baldwin and Dr. Burnham recommend nitrous oxide (a.k.a. Laughing gas) to those patients who may need a little help to feel more at ease while at the dentist. Nitrous oxide is a gas that is mixed with Oxygen (O2) and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. The nitrous helps decrease anxiety making you feel more at ease while you are here with us. You breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you should start to feel the effects of the nitrous oxide. Primary effect of the nitrous is that you will feel less anxious making you more comfortable for your procedure. You may feel like your floating and some tingling in your arms and legs is normal. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy.
Nitrous oxide is not intended to put you to sleep. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off within minutes after the treatment has ended and the mask is removed, allowing you to go back to work/school/drive right after the appointment. If you are interested in using nitrous oxide at your next visit ask any of the staff here at Baldwin Family Dental if it would be a good option for you! Nitrous oxide is not used if you are pregnant.
